About Us

History
Martha Sue Crowley founded Charlotte Swim Academy 20 years ago when she was only 19 years old. With a degree in early childhood education, Martha Sue found she had a talent and passion for teaching young children. She also had a love for the water. Charlotte Swim Academy was the ideal marriage of both.

Charlotte Swim Academy opened it's doors in 1991 and since that time has coached over 25,000 students to be successful swimmers.

CSA Parents Say:

We started lessons for our son at 9 months old and continued them every session until 5. We couldn’t ask for a better teaching facility with optimal one-on-one teaching!
-Noelle Zagorski
My 3 children have taken swim lessons at CSA for several sessions. The instructors are excellent at keeping pace with each child’s comfort level and ability in the water. I highly recommend it!

I have 3 children and we have taken swimming lessons elsewhere. CSA is the best place for swimming lessons. The CSA staff are incredible, always giving positive praise and full of smiles. My kids are all swimmers because of CSA.
-Kathryn DeFriese
My girls, ages 3 and 5 are both swimming with confidence. Never have I been so pleased with a program. I see progress on a weekly basis. I would encourage all parents to enroll their children in CSA... you will not be disappointed.
-Susan Falco
I have always been pleased by your professional and warm staff. The best thing I can say is that my kids love coming to swim!
-Amy Andrews
I have 2 sons. One age 11 on swim team, and one age 3 a beginner. The staff are awesome with both. I would highly recommend the Charlotte Swim Academy!!! My sons always look forward to coming to swim lessons.
-Amy Winiger
We tried ALL other programs, and we were not impressed prior to going to CSA . This past year my 5 year old started at Charlotte Swim Academy. The owner is a mom who developed the curriculum used there and she is very hands on.
-Deborah Burris

But for Martha Sue, the true rewards of teaching come from seeing a child transform from fearful to joyful in the water, watching a natural confidence develop and knowing the positive impact that will have for years to come.

Martha Sue, now a mother of three, currently runs the business with her husband Gary Crowley. CSA is a family-owned and family-focused business. We feel privileged to serve hundreds of families in the greater Charlotte area and are now excited to see a second generation of swimmers coming through our doors!

Staff
The staff of Charlotte Swim Academy is well-known for their devotion to and understanding of children. Our swim school has an excellent community reputation and as a result receives numerous referrals each session. We attribute a large part of our success to our wonderful teachers and support staff. Each teacher is hand picked and receives extensive training in the Charlotte Swim Academy methods by Owner/Director Martha Sue Crowley. In addition, we have an experienced senior teacher on the pool deck at all times to assist teachers, confer with parents and optimize the lessons in progress. This careful control allows us to deliver a consistently positive experience to each student.

Teaching Philosophy
We believe that private lessons provide the optimal environment for swimming success for young children. By focusing attention on one student at a time, our skilled teachers are able to set the appropriate learning pace for each child. The private lesson allows us to address anxiety or fear and to identify strengths and weaknesses without distractions. Many times this means an accelerated learning path to confident swimming. Our private lesson structure allows us to fulfill our mission of providing the safest and most effective swim instruction available.
